The tour starts in Agadir! With our in-depth cultural tour of the Sahara, you will discover 11 different destinations in Morocco and explore the magic of the southern desert. The tour includes half-board accommodation, an experienced guide, and a comfortable 4WD vehicle as our transportation for the whole trip.
You will have the chance to learn about the amazing south of Morocco geographically and traditionally. Erg Chegaga is the largest sand dune in Morocco and not far from the border with Algeria. A visit to these beautiful sand dunes is undoubtedly worthwhile.
The tour also offers a great opportunity to experience the traditional nomadic life. Far from the busy roads and markets, stay overnight in a Berber tent or under the bright stars in the middle of the desert, where you can also experience camel riding and sandboarding. What to expect on your 4-day Moroccan desert tour
On this adventurous tour, you will discover the magical sight of the small Berber villages with their fruit gardens and the largest dunes in Morocco. This includes several oases and different places to visit. Also exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait ben Haddou, kasbah taourirt, cinema studios, and an ancient library. A wonderful overnight stay in the middle of the Sahara is also on the program.
On the first day, our guide will pick you up and drive to Ouarzazate, where you can enjoy the scenery this region has to offer. We will stop for pictures along the way as there are beautiful locations where you can capture great pictures with splendid mountains as a natural background. Once we arrive in Tazenakht, which is most famous for its traditional homemade carpets and saffron, we will have lunch. We recommend that you try a Tagine with saffron!
After lunch, we will visit the saffron cooperative and drive towards Ouarzazate.
Later we will head to the fantastic and famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou which is the most attractive in the south of the country. It is also considered one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is a clay and straw castle built on a high hill against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains and offers fantastic panoramic views over the Berber villages and the river. It is a special place where well-known series and films have been shot, such as Lawrence of Arabia and Prince of Persia. After walking and visiting the attractions, it is now time to rest and relax in a comfortable hotel with a delicious Moroccan dinner.
On the second day of this tour, we first visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and the cinema studio in Ouarzazate, then we cross the Ait Saoun Mountains in the direction of Zagora. The first city we will encounter is Agdz, near the city we visit the very old Kasbah of Tamnougalt. We cross the river again to the main road along the spectacular Draa Valley with its palm trees and continue through Berber villages to Amzrou. In Tamegroute, which is known for its famous green pottery, we will visit a historical center of learning and religion and its old library of books from the 11th century. Later we will head to M’hamid where you will go with a dromedary to the desert camp. You spend the night in the Berber camp and can also enjoy a beautiful starry sky.
On the third day, you will see the huge sand dunes. We will drive with our 4×4 vehicle along desert dunes to reach the largest sand dunes of Erg Chegaga. We will have lunch on the way in the shade of tamarisk trees. Later we continue on a dry sand plateau to our desert camp where you can do sand boarding and camel rides. At the top of the dunes, you can witness the sunset. Spending the night in a Berber tent or under the starry sky is on our program.
On the fourth day, we wake you up a little earlier to enjoy the sunrise. After breakfast, we cross the old Paris-Dakar Rally tracks, a dry and sandy plateau valley. After the off-road tracks, we will take a short break with Moroccan tea in Foum Zguid and then continue to the town of Tazenkhet, famous for its high-quality saffron. Then we drive along through the argan fields to Taroudant where we later return to Agadir.

4-day tour from Agadir to the Erg Chegaga desert route description
Below is a description of the 4-day itinerary to the Sahara. If you would like to customize this trip to your liking, just let us know. We will adjust it to your wishes. Due to extreme heat, this trip is not recommended in July and August. We recommend booking in advance so that we can offer you the best. Day 1: Agadir – Taroudante – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Our 4 days desert tour starts around 9 am from Agadir to Ouarzazate. Our guide will pick you up at your hotel. We head towards Ouarzazate via Taroudant where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the argan trees and saffron fields next to the Berber villages. We go to Ait Ben Haddou to visit its ksour “a village fortified with stones, loam, and straw”.
The ksour is located on a hill near the riverbank and along the former caravan route between the desert and Marrakech. The Kasbah, with its typical regional buildings, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and has been used as the setting for many famous films, including Lawrence of Arabia, The Gladiator, and Starwars. You spend the night in Ouarzazate in a hotel with dinner and breakfast.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa-valley – Zagora – Mhamid
After breakfast at your hotel, we continue our 4-day desert tour to M’hamid by crossing the Ait Saoun Mountains. We pass the spectacular Draa Valley with its palm trees and fields of more than 200 km. At the municipality of Agdz, we visit the Kasbah of Tamnougalt.
Later we drive on the main road and along the Draa palm groves to Zagora. On the way to Tamgroute, we visit the Kasbah of Amzrou and small Berber villages, some of which are known for their famous pottery art. Once we arrive at Tamgroute, we will visit an old library, which has some books dating back to the 11th century. Then we drive to M’hamid where you ride a dromedary to the desert camp and enjoy a beautiful sunset. Dinner and overnight will take place in the camp.
Day 3: M’hamid – Off-road – Erg Chegaga
Today you will see the real sand dunes! We leave after breakfast to cross desert dunes and oases to the largest sand dunes in the country, Erg Chegaga. Since everything here is a sandy plateau, we have lunch in the shade of palm trees or tamarisk. In the afternoon we continue on the off-road tracks to reach the desert camp and get a taste of the real nomad life. Here you can also do sandboarding, camel rides and enjoy the sunset on top of the dunes. Dinner and overnight stay in a Berber tent is part of the program.
Day 4: Erg Chegaga– Lake Iriki – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Agadir
We get up early to enjoy the sunrise. Later, after breakfast, we drive along the old Paris-Dakar Rally tracks, a dry and sandy plateau valley through Lake Iriki that was once full of water. Here and there we spot some tamaris trees from far away. Once we arrive in Foum Zguid, we take a short break after a long off-road drive. We continue to Taznakht and Taliouine, which are known for their good quality carpets and saffron. Then we drive along through the argan tree fields to Taroudant, also known as the little Marrakech with its red defensive walls and souks. Then we return to Agadir where our service comes to an end.
