Tinghir is the administrative center of the region and is located halfway between the Dades Valley and Tafilalt. Southwest of the city lies Elhaj Ait Ali, the old Jewish quarter, of which the houses form an interesting architecture. Tinghir has the most beautiful oases in southern Morocco. A few kilometers from the center an oasis is located where one can do walking in the middle of its spectacular fields. Along the Todra Gorge, there are beautiful palm tree gardens full of small paths next to the water canals, where the people of the villages grow their vegetables and their fruit.
Tinghir’s climate is characterized by drought, with some rainfall in the fall and winter while the temperature range from below zero in December and around forty degrees Celsius in July. Tinghir has good weather throughout the year, in the summer it is very hot and the other seasons have normal temperatures.

The city’s economy is mainly based on agriculture, trade, and tourism services. Tinghir also has the largest silver mine in Africa, known as the “Imadhar mine.”
A few kilometers from Tinghir is the Todra Gorge where the cliffs rise 300 meters high. These are the impressive cliffs of southern Morocco and are very familiar to experienced mountaineers.
The language spoken in this region is Tamazight or better known as Tachlhit. Tinghir is about 141 km from the desert town of Erfoud and 187 km from the famous desert dunes of Erg Chebbi.

– Todgha Gorge is a canyon in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, located about 15 km north of Tinghir. The gorge is famous among rock climbers. It is an amazing place to visit during your trip to Tinghir.
