Morocco is a North African country known for its vibrant culture which exemplifies harmonious religious coexistence. Throughout the history of this nation, it has embraced a variety of religions. Presently, the constitution acknowledges Sunni Islam as the predominant religion, and Morocco remains a melting pot of religious diversity. In addition to the Muslim Sunni majority, the country is proudly home to communities of Jews, Christians, and Baha’is.
According to various unofficial censuses, 99 percent of the population of Morocco consists of Sunni Muslims and less than 0.1 percent of Shia Muslims.

Jewish community leaders suggest around 3,500 Jews in Morocco, with the majority, about 2,500, residing in Casablanca. The estimated number of Christians differs significantly with some leaders suggesting figures, between 1,500 and 12,000 while the Moroccan Association of Human Rights puts forth a count of 25,000. Reports, in the media even suggest that the actual number might exceed 30,000. Estimating the total is challenging due to limited official data and the census itself needs independence. However, the Moroccan Constitution declares that Islam is the religion of the state and guarantees religious freedom for all.
