Can you travel to the Agafay desert from Marrakech in 1 day by car?

The Agafay Desert is only a few hours drives from Marrakesh, making it an ideal place for a day trip to Marrakech. There are a number of tour companies that offer trips to the desert, or you can rent a car for 300 Moroccan dirhams and drive it yourself.

If you only have one day in Marrakech, don't miss the chance to live in a desert environment for a few hours. Our afternoon excursion takes us to the southwest of Marrakesh, the road shaded by lush vegetation and orange groves, occasionally passing a village near Lala Takrkoust and driving off-road for a different experience.

Agafay has become very popular in recent years, but the route we take is not well known even by the locals in Marrakech, which means fewer tourists and more natural landscapes with the high Atlas Mountains in the background.

The land seems to stretch into eternity as it gives the impression of complete separation from civilization, but it is not a true desert with sand dunes. This special trip included a camel ride and a tea break in a wild place to watch the sunset. We will come back to Marrakech after enjoying all this dry mountain desert. But if you are looking for a true desert experience with high sand dunes, it is possible to join our team on an adventure trip of 3 days and 2 nights.

Day trip to the Agafay desert from Marrakech

Our Agafay Desert day trip takes you to a charming place to escape the modern cities, just an hour away from the otherworldly vibrant city of Marrakesh. A day trip to the Agafay Desert allows you to explore the beautiful rocky terrain at the base of the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains and see how Berber life traditions continue today as you visit some of the villages scattered around about the excavated desert. We return to Marrakech in the evening.

Located 30 kilometers from Marrakesh, Agafay was called the desert of Marrakesh in ancient times and is a beautiful oasis stretching along riverbeds with exceptional views of the vast Moroccan wilderness. The Agafay Desert is well worth a day trip and is also a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh. Many outdoor enthusiasts are fascinated by the feeling of freedom of practicing their favorite sport in the vast open spaces. A trip to learn sports, mountain biking, horse riding or quad biking, and camel riding are some of the many activities that can be organized.
