2 Days trip from Zagora to Erg Chegaga Desert Itinerary

The journey from Zagora to Erg Chigaga can be quite challenging. It takes proper preparation and planning to ensure you have all the supplies and equipment needed for such a long journey. The journey to the desert is expected to begin around 8:00 AM for a full-day tour in a private trip by air-conditioned 4WD vehicle.

Day 1: Zagora ❯ Erg Lihoudi ❯ Desert Oasis  ❯ Erg Chigaga

We will start our tour from your accommodation in Zagora at approximately 08:00 AM. We drive south for about an hour to the old town of Tamegroute. In this little village, you will visit one of the oldest libraries in Morocco where some ancient books and scripts can be found (Zawiya of Nasiriyya). The surrounding is dotted with palm trees and tamarisk trees. Along the way, you can visit one of the workshops around Tamegroute that bake stylish green pottery in an old-fashioned method.

Later, we continue our journey to the desert village of M’hamed. We will then cross a huge plateau where you will surely be impressed by the wide and huge sand dunes of Chigaga dotted with wild plants and trees. Here we will take a camel ride at sunset and enjoy the most fantastic views before reaching our nomad camp. Prepare for a special evening and enjoy the music of the local nomads by the campfire and the full clear starry sky. If the wheater permits it, you can sleep under millions of stars if you wish as it is safe.

Day 1: Erg Chigaga ❯ M’hamid ❯ Tamgroute  ❯ Zagora

The next day, after enjoying the delicious breakfast at the campsite, you have the opportunity to go sandboarding in the deep sand dunes and admire the beautiful sandy sea. Then in the late afternoon and the visit of a Berber Bedouin family, we returned from Chigaga to Zagora via Mahamid town. Stopovers can be scheduled today if you miss a morning or if you decide to hit the dunes early and explore at your own pace today.
